Day in a Life Private Tour
Kompheim Village - Ladybug Village
| Located around 16km from Siem Reap Kompheim Village is a small village made up of farmers and itinerant workers. The village is a mixture of type 1,2 and 3 households. Type one families typically struggle to meet daily needs, and often struggle for food. Our Day in a Life program aims to work mostly with these households |
| On every tour a host family looks after the group. This host family welcomes you into their home and lives for the day. These families receive a small payment for being the host family and a larger contribution is made to a village fund. The village fund is used for special village projects like water filters and water wells. We work with the families to determine the projects that need to be undertaken. |
| It is extremely important that you do not hand out gifts, lollies or money to these families or children, no matter how dire the situation seems. Providing gifts can cause problems within the village and jealousy among families and relatives. Should you wish to help please discuss with our team. You will notice that many children suffer poor dental hygiene. Please do not buy or hand out lollies - this only contributes to the problem. |
What to Wear
We recommend that you wear sturdy footwear like trainers / sneakers. Long sleeves and pants are ideal - we also suggest sunglasses and a hat. Please refrain from wearing revealing clothing in villages.
General Information
- All tours are capped at a maximum of 8 participants
- A picnic lunch with a variety of sandwiches is provided (due to lack of sanitation standards, safe water and no refridgeration meals are provided by beyond)

Depart from Siem Reap and journey out to a local village where you will spend the day. The village sits around 16km from Siem Reap and consists of mostly farming families. Please note this is a real village not a replica set up for tourists to visit, as such you need to flexible, things can change, ceremonies may be running or events may be taking place in the village. We in no way want to impact on the traditional culture or practices in the village and so will adapt the tour if need be. |

Each tour works with one host family, who is a Type 1 Poor Family. Typically a type one family has no regular income source, and no savings. Families often miss meals and are very vulnerable to illness. |
 Activities |
Activities on the tour may include planting rice, harvesting or transplanting rice depending on the time of year. Other activities include weaving thatch for roof repairs, weaving wall panels, planting vegetable crops, tree planting, making prahoc or rice wine. Every tour is different, activities will depend on the time of year, family needs and goings on in the village. |
 Village Life |
Every Tour welcomes you into the village. Learn about life in a typical village, visit the local Pagoda and school if possible. Find out about village customs and culture and gain new insights and experiences. |

A picnic lunch is provided as part of this tour and a traditional Khmer dish for the host family. Lunch is enjoyed together with your host family. Please note due to lack of electricity and proper sanitation we cannot source food from the village. We prepare all meals in town and provide them for this tour. |

This Day in a Life Tour is part of Beyonds Responsible Tourism Initiative. Every tour directly helps a Type 1 village family. In addition every tour sets aside funding for projects in the village. Your participation directly helps Cambodian families. Please note providing gifts is a wonderful gesture but can cause issues of jealousy and lead to a begging cycle.
