Sambor Prei Kuk was once the bustling Capital of the Chenla Empire and was then known as Isanapura. It is home to some of the most impressive Pre Angkorian monuments set in lush forests. This 7th century temple site sits in Kompong Thom around 20km north of the city, surrounded by jungle in three distinct clusters. The walk between these sites is very beautiful, and provides an opportunity to see birdlife and other wildlife along the way. This overnight trip is an ideal extension from Siem Reap.
